May Beauty Balance

In March/April, I had a lot of empties. Which was great, as it had balanced out what I spent my ulta points on in March. In my last empties post, I had mentioned I purchased two skincare items which had gone unaccounted for thus far. These will appear in this post along with a few other things I brought into my collection.

First up, in the last post I was 37 items out of my collection over what entered. Now for what entered over the course of this month.

A total of 8 items.

I picked up twp viseart petit pro palettes on sale, these are pro 2 and pro 4. I have tried both of them, despite my pan those eyeshadows project. But only once each. I had expected to appreciate the peachy one more than the berry toned one. As it turned out, thus far I found the peachy one a little underwhelming, but the berry toned one lived up to my high expectations of my viseart love.

I also picked up a travel size Mugler Alien perfume. I had a sample of this that I finished a few months ago and I really loved this one. I bought the travel size, and if I get through that in a reasonable amount of time, it may be one I repurchase. However, I do have a lot of other samples and my wedding perfume that I use regularly, so I may not get through it in a “reasonable” amount of time. I have no idea what amount of time I would consider reasonable.

Along with that came a sample of chanel mademoiselle.  Now, I am fairly certain that I had chosen a variation of this fragrance, but what came was the normal one. Which is too bad. This was a scent I used regularly 20 years ago, so I am not super in love with using it now. I like it, but it’s not me anymore. But I’ll use it up.

I picked up two skincare items. The first was The Ordinary Lactic acid HA. My hope is that this will be a less expensive version of Farmacy Honeymoon Glow which I loved so much. The other is peach and lily glass skin serum, which was half off during the 21 days of beauty sale.

And then, I realized I was about out of my mousse which is absolutely critical to creating the rather stand straight up in the air hairstyle I have. I actually don’t love the one I was using anyhow, so I am glad I got to work my way through it pretty well during a time that my hair wasn’t looking great as I needed a haircut, and I wasn’t out much anyhow. I DID get a haircut this week, a strange experience that required wearing a mask, but was totally doable. And gosh was it ever the biggest relief. Anyhow, that’s neither here nor there. I picked up two cans of mousse that I’ve never tried before. I tried one this morning. It’s quite potent smelling. But thankfully the smell didn’t linger.

So now, that’s 29 items leaving my collection over what came into my collection this year. Now let’s look at my empties. To be perfectly frank, there aren’t many empties really. But I think I’ll have a pretty good amount next month.

5 items, bringing us to 34 items leaving my collection over what entered.

The Shea butter isn’t actually empty. It’s about half full, but it has gone sooooo off. Smells like rancid oil. It’s not wearable. I will likely repurchase this again in the fall, as it really does to a great job of moisturizing heavily. But I won’t need it until then.

I have a sample of it cosmetics confidence in a gel lotion. I do not find that I’ve liked the moisturizers from it cosmetics. This was no exception.

I finished The Ordinary granactive retinoid solution. I would likely repurchase.

I finally finished my Dr. Brandt cleanser. This was a nice gentle cleanser, but I am not likely to purchase it. In fact, I really haven’t liked any of the Dr. Brandt items I’ve tried, though all of them have been through subscription boxes.

And, I finished my Skin & Co facial spray, which I didn’t love and wouldn’t repurchase.

So, that’s it, 34 items out over what came in and I am hoping in the upcoming months that is a ratio that will rise quite nicely.

  1. Great job! I haven’t been impressed by Dr. Bandt either. I love the size of the visart palettes. I might buy one. Which one do you recommend? Also, do you like the Lorac Pro Mega palettes? Im thinking about getting volume 4, the more pinl shades.

    • For the Viseart palettes, I’ve got 2-5. For a nice neutral one, 3 is super lovely. for color, 5 is great! Though if you don’t want the bright yellow, 2 is a nice substitute. I haven’t been that impressed with 4, but I’ve also barely used it. I find that the mattes I’ll think I am struggling with, and then all of a sudden something happens and my look comes out consistently good, I am always surprised.

I actually haven’t tried any Lorac products yet. It’s on my list of brands to try, but I just haven’t pulled the trigger. I bought one of their eyeshadow palettes for a friend, but she’s not huge into makeup, so she hasn’t mentioned how it is, and probably wouldn’t feel like she has much to compare it to. The way people describe their eyeshadow formula makes it seem like soemthing I’d really like!
