Quarantimes, next project

We’ve begun our next quarantimes project here at our house. You see, all of Miss Butterfly’s summer plans have now been canceled, leaving her with an abundance of time on her hands. I continue to work from home a major part of the time, and I see that continuing for who knows how long. Our state is being particularly cavalier about this virus, so this is likely to extend our work from home status.

Since we got our Lizzie dog almost 3 years ago, I’ve been bugging Mr. Ink about fostering for our rescue. It’s actually how we ended up with Rose, he agreed to a second dog if I would stop bugging him about fostering. And it turned out to be a great decision. In reality, Lizzie wouldn’t have accepted dogs in and out of the home anyhow.

We got Fury for Rose, and now find ourselves without a quarantimes project. I mean, honestly, no one in this house wants to pick up a paintbrush or roller again anytime soon. So, a few weeks back I asked Mr. Ink again if we could foster, seeing as we were home quite a lot. This was at lunchtime. Mr. Ink said “Yep, let’s give it a go.” So, I filled out the application that afternoon, was accepted immediately, no surprise since we’ve been volunteering for the rescue in various capacities for ages now, and we were on our way to becoming a foster home.

I looked through the dogs available to foster and picked one out, but it looked like it was possible she was already taken. The rescue owner said she’d get back to me. Mr. Ink got home from work and said “Do we have a dog yet?” Which is when I realized he wasn’t going into this halfheartedly, he was all in too. Later that evening, we found out that we could get that dog in, so we arranged to have her stay with us once she was transported to our city.

And on Saturday, she made her way to our city after a 2 day long transport with 35 other dogs. Amazing! Her rescue name is Splendid, and she’s doing great. Want to meet her?

I chose her name since Fury’s name is from Mad Max Fury Road. I thought I’d stick to the theme. She’s said to be 2 years old, she’s 19 pounds, and she’s a very sweet companion dog. She came in with extremely long talon like nails curled all the way back under her feet. We are working to slowly work those talons back so she can walk easily. She’s also heartworm positive, she has received her treatment, and now needs to stay resting for a month so that the worms can clear out of her system without causing heart and lung issues. So, we’ll have her for at least a month. And really, we’ll have her until she is adopted out.

She’s an easy dog so far. She doesn’t chew things. She doesn’t get up to no good. She is appreciating the fact that her main job right now is to chill out and rest. She doesn’t mind having her nails done, she doesn’t mind being picked up, all in all, she’s going to make someone a very easy dog, which is lovely!

Our dogs are adjusting pretty well too. I wasn’t sure how Fury would do, but Fury is perfectly content with another dog in the house. Turns out, that’s unsurprising since Fury was in two different foster homes before she came to us, and in both homes, there were lots of foster dogs and resident dogs. Rose is a little bit more of a wild card, she wants to assert her dominance. And that’s fair, she’s the most established dog member of our household. But she, too, is adjusting just fine.

So, I suspect that you’ll see a bit more of Splendid in the days to come as we walk the path of our very first foster dog! So far, it’s gone very well. On the docket today is a proper bath.
