Another Everything but the Sink update

I’ve kept working on my bin of samples and travel size products as well as a number of items I am was close to being done with. More samples have entered my life and they got thrown in the bin as well to be used. Here’s another grouping of finished items.

The big news, for me, is that I FINALLY started making progress on all the travel size dental floss. I find the travel sizes so annoying. You use them for a week and then you go to get another length of floss and you get half the amount necessary. It’s just too irritating. But over the past month I have seriously committed to getting them used. I’ve got loads more to go through, obviously the pile of these has grown for years, but I am now determined to keep after it.

This group has a ton of sachets that I used up. Nothing here is super duper remarkable. I’ve enjoyed the project quite a bit, but it has also shown me that so much of what I use is pretty interchangeable. At least for me. I’ve got my skin in a place that is fairly good. Fairly normal. I deal with some masking related acne which is annoying but I also have products to use for that. I am no longer dehydrated, definitely not terribly oily during the winter, pretty balanced overall. And honestly that means that I can change up a thing or two here and there, use up these products, and it doesn’t screw up my skin or my routine. Kind of a fun place to be!

22 in 2022 Update 1

I knew in December that I was going to do this project or one like it, and as such, took photos and began working through the items at that time. I posted the official start of this project at the beginning of the year. But at that time, I did not take update photos because I wanted to make a little more progress.

Here’s the photo from the start of the project.

And here’s where I am now:

At the beginning of this year I said that the mac foundation was a “bonus” item and I’d remove it during update 1. I had also intended to wait to finish the bite beauty lipstick before posting an update. There’s been a massive change of plans. Due to the current situation with the pandemic in our state, and because I work in a healthcare facility, mask rules have changed drastically. The first change was that we have to mask all the time unless my door is closed and I am the only one in my office. Then, they instituted KN95 requirements, and, there’s a mask mandate for our city in general. Basically, we are back to where we were during the worst of the pandemic last year, or worse. Instead of happily finishing up a lipstick, I am working on a gloss that feels nourishing as no one sees my lips. Instead of putting the mac foundation that doesn’t hold up well under masks aside, I am wearing it regularly. I only need it to hold where the mask isn’t, and it’s totally up to that challenge. So now is the prime time to use it. It stays in the project.

I’ve made some progress on the bare minerals bare pro foundation. But I am definitely at the moment concentrating on mac.

I’ve made massive progress on my hourglass dim light powder. I think 2 more months to finish. The pan is expanded greatly, side pan is hit, but one side still has a fairly thick amount on the pan. Unfortunately when getting the update photo I didn’t notice part of it was out of the picture, that’s the area with side pan.

I am plugging away at the sunscreen and it is going fine. My main complaint about the sunscreen is that it smells not great to me. I will be thrilled when it is gone.

The juice beauty primer works well over this sunscreen which is perfect since it has tended to make other sunscreens pill up. Now is the perfect time to finish it off, except that I have a terrible time remembering to use it! But, with the jellypop primer gone, if I can remember to use it, I think I can be done next month.

And, the bite beauty lipstick had some progress, but sadly is at a stand still. Once the weather warms I imagine I can wear it to all outdoor events, and perhaps the situation here will get better in a month or two. At that time, I’ll work at it again. It’s a bummer since I was so so close to finishing!

Since the situation has changed, I am adding in a tower 28 lip jelly (number 13 below.) This works great as a bit of a balm under my KN95 so I am eager to use it now. I have not even opened this yet, but I recently finished another of this size and it went pretty quickly.

I am also adding in my Ilia lip mask (number 11 in list below) as I have been dipping into it pretty hard when working from home or in the evenings. There’s a danger that if I don’t add it now, It’ll just be gone before I document it in any way.

I will attempt to do updates midmonth, though planning that way these days doesn’t always work for me. I am hoping that I can have one finished item next month!

The list I posted at the beginning of the year, I will cross items off as I complete them:

Y: NYX eyeshadow pan (forgot to get a photo this update) goal is to use up. (18 uses for a total of 98 uses)
Z: BH Cosmetics Zodiac Palette-goal is to hit pan on the matte Virgo shade. (3 uses for a total of 29 uses to meet my goal)

The big progress this month was finishing the jellypop primer and hitting pan in the zodiac palette. 2 goals met.

I decluttered one item to a friend and did not meet my goal on 7 items. But I still feel like this was a very successful project overall. A total of 11 pans were hit. 3 of those were face products and the rest were eyeshadow. And I completely used up 7 items. Using up a full highlighter was always an ambitious goal, but I hit pan, repressed, and I have two tiny baby pans on the repressed highlighter. This year I plan to actively work on finishing the highlighter and the nyx cream colored eyeshadow. I know I can finish the nyx, and I think I can finish the highlighter if I keep concentrating on it.

I chose not to put any of the items from this project in my 22 in 2022 project I just started, so I am hoping that the the finishes I make with these items in 2022 will just be additional items I get to move out of my collection after finishing. Little bonuses!

22 in 2022 Intro

As stated in yesterday’s post, I have been looking logically at my collection and deciding what I can work through in a planned manner over the year. I’ve chosen 22 items total plus a few bonus items to work on in case I struggle with some on the main list. I really do want to hit that 22 item goal. This project is not meant to be a rotate through my collection project, it’s a use it up project. I may mess around with a usage project in the future.

Let’s start with the photo I took last month, I am not providing new photos yet.

My intention for this project is for it to be a rolling project. Photographs otherwise get too overwhelming. I will still use the other items in the project but photograph those I am really concentrating on. But I am going to list out all 22 here plus the bonus items. For the record, the above Mac foundation will not be featured as a main 22, it’ll be a bonus item because I don’t actually think I will be able to finish it. I will not be photographing it again unless major progress is being made.

  1. Hourglass Dim Light powder
  2. Bare Minerals Bare Pro Powder Foundation
  3. Cerave sunscreen
  4. Juice Beauty primer (deluxe sample size)
  5. Bite Beauty lipstick
  6. Sephora green color corrector
  7. Tarte Amazonian Clay color corrector
  8. Colourpop supershock shadow Frog
  9. Benefit eyebrow pencil
  10. Elf putty primer (deluxe sample size)
  11. Ilia lip balm (deluxe sample size)
  12. Tarte lip balm (deluxe sample size)
  13. Tower 28 gloss (deluxe sample size)
  14. Sleek Face Palette (darkest contour shade only with use of the light bronzer shade as well)
  15. Makeup Forever Lip Liner
  16. Makeup Forever powder (deluxe sample size)
  17. Laura Mercier secret brightening powder
  18. Coola spray (sample size)
  19. Maybelline setting spray (travel size)
  20. 1 mascara of any type
  21. Benefit tinted eyebrow gel
  22. Ofra liquid lipstick travel size any color

Bonus items:

elf eyebrow wax
Stila lipstick
Pan of blush
Mac foundation

I will go through all these items now and try to do some progress lines, and then I’ll start taking photos of them at the end of this month.

2022 makeup collection plans

I’ve been using the app GlowinMe to track my makeup collection. I have everything in there now from face primers to color products. I do not have skincare in there. I do have sample/travel size projects. If an eyeshadow is a single shadow but in a curated magnetic palette, I counted it as one palette. If they are individual shadows, I counted them individually.

This is all to say that working on this project has been a lovely way to see what I have when I go to purchase other items. Much like with my yarn stash on Ravelry, I have easily been able to make better decisions because I am easily able to see from anywhere what I have, and what is often an abundance.

These seems like a bit of a hobby pattern for me. Purchase quite a lot because trying new things is inspiring but eventually getting a bit overwhelmed and wanting to find a way to cut back again. Then at some point evening out to a place where the collection isn’t too overwhelming but remains inspiring. I think with makeup, I am at the place of wanting a bit more balance and knowing what types of things I enjoy.

Yesterday I took this screenshot with my phone from the app.

You can see on there that it says stash 239. Now that number is a bit deceiving because if I have more than one of an item, the stash entry says 2 but the app does not count that as 2 separate items. The good news is that there are only 5 items that I have doubles of. There are also two lip balms I didn’t enter into my collection yet, but lip balm seems more of a skincare item to me than a makeup product so I may leave those two items out.

For project panning, I have finally fully decided to do a 22 in 2022 project. I will also be shutting down my A to Z that I started last February, but I just want to finish one more item before I shut it down. It’ll likely be shut down before a year is out. I am not entering much eyeshadow into the 22 in 2022 project as I want to play in my eyeshadow collection.

As for purchasing, I’ve decided to slow things down a bit. First of all, for eyeshadows, I’ve decided I really like the Nabla and Pat McGrath formulas. For the most part, I want to limit myself to those. And since they are pricey, this ends up being self limiting. I would like to build myself some wiggle room there, with a potential purchase of one other palette from a US based brand and one from a K or J beauty site. I want to continue to try some K and J beauty items in the upcoming year, but I want to limit myself to one new foundation total for the year. I will allow myself 5 total lip products, 1 primer, 3 powders, 1 setting spray (unless I run out and need to replace) and 4 colored face products (blush, highlighter, bronzer.)

Meanwhile I hope to be working through my collection well enough that those amounts make some sense. And, that my total collection numbers actually drop.

That’s it! That’s the plan. A low buy (and I will allow replacements if that ever happens) and a well thought out project in order to drop my overall collection number. I would kind of like to end up with my collection number under 200 by the end of the year. We’ll see if that’s possible. But all this will be a good start. Tomorrow will be my 22 in 2022 intro.

Everything but the Sink Update

It’s less than a month since my last update but I was able to finish quite a lot of tiny items from my bin of small items. I need to continue to work on rearranging my craft room as I purchased a comfy chair for the room and need to get it to the point where it is ready to receive the chair. The chair is supposed to be delivered this weekend.

There are three full size products in this batch but they were both part of the original bin of products mostly because they were close to being done and I wanted to concentrate on finishing them. Everything else is sample/travel sized or sachets. I particularly enjoyed the Biore sunscreen, it’s lovely under makeup and very hydrating. I can’t say there were any other super stand out products. I do enjoy the Sunday Riley products but they are more expensive than I am typically willing to pay and I can generally find less expensive products that serve the same purposes.

Despite continuing to get sample sizes and sachets in orders, I have mostly been working through them immediately and I don’t have too much left in the bin. The project will continue but most of the remaining items are already in rotation being used so this’ll wrap up pretty soon.

2022 Rolling Project Pan

You read that right! I am already posting about next year’s project pan. I am still working on my everything but the kitchen sink, and I am still working on my A to Z. But, I am also doing a full stash rotation this month in hopes to discover what I want to pan next year and I’ve already come up with 6 items. In my opinion, 6 items is a perfect number to begin. And I don’t really want to wait until January to begin.

These items will still be used sparingly this month since I am working on the stash rotation. But I really do not want to neglect them. By the time I finish the first item I should have a pretty good idea of what I’d next like to roll in.

At the top I’ve got some Bare Minerals Bare Pro powder foundation which you can see I’ve really worked at quite well over the years. I was keeping it at work and using it when I’d ride my bike or motorbike to work. But, during my stash rotation I found two more powder foundations, one of which I liked quite a bit more, so I think it’s time to get this one used up.

Next to that is an hourglass ambient lighting powder in dim light. It has been in a previous project, I had wanted to hit pan which obviously I did. This shade actually works as a pretty decent bronzer in the dead of winter so now is a great time to try to get it used up.

The CeraVe mineral sunscreen I want to love, but I like the australian gold one so much better. I kind of hate the smell of the cerave one and it also doesn’t really set down nicely for me when I use it on its own. I feel kind of slimy all the time when I use it. I have heard it performs pretty well under makeup so I have decided to try to finish it. I’ll mark this one as soon as this post is finished.

The mac studio fix fluid foundation is just not great for me. It does not hold on to my skin during a work day and mask wearing. This one may be harder for me to pan, but my hope is to use it on days I don’t need a long wearing foundation in my life. I have washi tape on the side to indicate how much has currently been used.

The juice beauty primer I’ve tried to pan before. This product is kind of a pain because there is so much skin care it doesn’t pair well with. It likes to ball up and look terrible. But lately I’ve been able to use it in certain circumstances so I am going to try to finish it. It is pretty when it’s working well! I still have another primer in the A to Z project pan so this may be slow going initially. There’s a silver line on the right hand side indicating how much I’ve used so far.

And finally, my Bite Beauty lipstick. It has been in a project pan before. And honestly, I wear the heck out of it in times of no masking. It’s just one of those formulas that feels quite comfortable to wear. And the color is kind of a neutral to cool toned pink. So any time I am wearing a mauve or more cool toned eyeshadow, this lipstick works beautifully. It’s so close to being finished though, so I’d like to just be able to get it finished and out of my stash. I may also try it as a cream blush at some point, because I think it would look really nice that way.

That’s it, 6 items to start working on in the upcoming year and even before. And while I am doing my stash rotation I am certain I’ll find more.

A to Z project pan update #6

I decided to go back to my first A to Z project pan post to see how long I have been working on the project. I knew that I had not started at the beginning of the year. Turns out, it was February 15 of this year. I am proud to say that this update brings me to completion of a few other items, and now I only have 9 items left in this project pan. In fact, I am down to being able to take just one photo of the items for an update. Here’s where I was last month, two photos.

It had actually been a really big update, a ton of goals hit particularly in the eyeshadow department. This update isn’t quite as dramatic but I did hit 3 goals, two of those were new eyeshadow pans. I did also repress my highlighter so that’ll look different this time. I have not hit pan on the repressed highlighter. Here’s this update photo with the list of uses below.

A: Mario Badescu facial spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. This is finished, but I forgot to save the empty container. (21 uses this update, total uses 40.)
B: ABH Sultry palette Bloom-goal is to hit pan. (1 uses this update, with 11 uses total)
C: ABH Sultry Palette Cinder-goal is to hit pan. (3 uses this update and 12 total)
D: ABH Sultry Palette Dystopian-goal is to hit pan. (5 uses this update with 40 uses total)
E: ABH Sultry Palette Ember-goal is to hit pan. (3 uses this month, 6 total)
F: ABH Sultry Palette Fresh-goal is to hit pan. (4 uses this update with 40 uses total and goal met!)
G: Grace & Stella Spray all Day Rose Spray-goal is to finish. (17uses, with 67 uses total and now used up)
H: Pur Highlighter-goal is to use up. (22 uses this update with 124 uses total)
I: IT Cosmetics CC cream-Goal is to finish. (9 uses to finish, so a total 24 uses in the project.)
J: Elf Jellypop primer-goal is to finish. (15 uses this update with 89 uses total)
L: Estee Lauder Doublewear-goal is to finish. (6 uses this update, 40 uses to finish my goal)
M:Tarte palette Mermosa-goal is to hit pan. (5 uses this update with 33 uses total and goal met!)
N: Tarte palette Nude Beach-goal is to hit pan. (5 uses with 34 uses total and pan hit!)
O: C.Y.O Lifeproof foundation-goal is to finish. (13 uses with 29 total to finish)
P: ABH Sultry Palette Pearl-goal is to hit pan. (5 uses with 93 uses to hit goal.)
Q: Tarte blush color Quirky-goal is to hit pan. (9 uses with 88 uses total and I have hit pan!)
R: Rom&nd bronzer: goal is to hit pan-goal achieved!. (34 uses with 105 uses total)
S: ABH Sultry Palette Steamunk-goal is to hit pan. (2 uses with 31 total uses to meet goal with massive pan!)
T: ABH Sultry Palette Twig-goal is to hit pan. (6 uses with 41 total uses and a goal met)
U: Urban Decay Eye Primer-goal is to finish. (24 uses with 61 total uses before finish)
V: Urban Decay eyeliner in Voodoo-goal is to use past the 24/7. (14 uses with 64 total uses)
W: Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear foundation-goal is to finish. (12 uses with 28 uses total and I am finished.)
X: Too Faced Boudoir Eyes (soft and sexy) eyeshadow palette use up In The Buff eyeshadow. (1 uses with a total of 35 uses)
Y: NYX eyeshadow pan (forgot to get a photo this update) goal is to use up. (24 uses for a total of 80 uses)
Z: BH Cosmetics Zodiac Palette-goal is to hit pan on the matte Virgo shade. (9 uses for a total of 26 uses)

So, two more eyeshadow pans hit and another foundation sample used up. But, I am about to take a bit of a break from this project. I am not saying I don’t want to continue, I am just saying that this time of year I really enjoy a full stash shake up and rotation. I want to concentrate on the rest of my stash and figure out what I might concentrate on panning next year. I can tell you for certain I won’t be deliberately panning eyeshadows again next year. I might do some usage goals or something to that extent. I will, of course, consider doing some other type of panning project.

While I am working on my full stash shakeup and rotation, I will continue to work on some of the items in this project. I am pretty close to hitting my goal on the voodoo eyeliner and I think I can finish up the jellypop primer pretty quickly at this point. And the cream eyeshadow from NYX is something that will continue to be useful during a stash rotation. But the work on the eyeshadows is going to slow significantly. Once I’ve completed a stash rotation, I’ll try to finish up the final goals. But for now, I don’t intend to force myself to work on this project. See you on the flipside of stash rotation! Or in an upcoming project pan, once I’ve determined which items I really want to finish up.

Everything but the sink update1

Hi all,

A little over a month ago I threw a whole bunch of samples and products into a bin and claimed I wanted to get them used up. I’d been organizing my bathroom drawer and gotten frustrated with the amount of tiny items and almost finished items. I just wanted to concentrate on a few things and get them out of my drawer.

Here’s the original bin:

It’s not an organized project pan, it’s simply an attempt to clear the bin as much as possible. Quite frankly, over the month, more sample sizes have been thrown in there as they’ve come into my life. But I did try to tackle my first update in a fairly organized manner. I decided to concentrate on the sachets as well as the bigger items that had very little product left in them.

Here are the items I finished over this past little over a month. I am not going to go into great detail about them. There’s a couple of different moisturizers, all of them were almost finished when I put them in the project. I have decided I would not repurchase the murad one, it pills under makeup and that’s not great for me. I just use it as a night cream now. But, sadly, I have another full one! So I am now concentrating on getting that used up as well. Both Peter Thomas Roth items are very nice moisturizers. Through the winter I prefer something a bit heavier than the cloud cream moisturizer, but it’s a lovely one for the summer. These days, for makeup removal I prefer a cleansing balm or oil, but I am determined to finish off the three clinique makeup removers just on principle. I actually used one to assist in removing some stubborn tape residue on my craft room walls. 🙂

I am glad to let these empty packaging pieces go and start on a new batch in the upcoming months.

A to Z Project Pan update #5

While I don’t typically do monthly updates on this project because it’s been so very long term, this has been one of those strange months where quite a few goals are being hit all at once. Last month I had hit goal on two products, leaving me with 18 out of the original goals still left to meet. Here’s a little spoiler, I hit 6 goals over the past month! 6! So, only 12 goals left to meet on this project. Let’s take a look.

Last Month:

This month:
My highlighter has broken so after today I intend to repress it, it will not look this way next time I update.

A: Mario Badescu facial spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. This is finished, but I forgot to save the empty container. (21 uses this update, total uses 40.)
B: ABH Sultry palette Bloom-goal is to hit pan. (1 uses this update, with 10 uses total)
C: ABH Sultry Palette Cinder-goal is to hit pan. (1 uses this update and 9 total)
D: ABH Sultry Palette Dystopian-goal is to hit pan. (7 uses this update with 35 uses total)
E: ABH Sultry Palette Ember-goal is to hit pan. (2 uses this month, 3 total)
(12 uses this update with 102 uses total)
I: IT Cosmetics CC cream-Goal is to finish. (9 uses to finish, so a total 24 uses in the project.)
J: Elf Jellypop primer-goal is to finish. (10 uses this update with 74 uses total)
L: Estee Lauder Doublewear-goal is to finish. (15 uses this update, 34 uses total)
(12 uses with 88 uses total)

Look at all the pan hit in the Nyx shadow pan!

(3 uses with 29 total uses)
(10 uses with 50 total uses)
W: Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear foundation-goal is to finish. (12 uses with 28 uses total and I am finished.)
X: Too Faced Boudoir Eyes (soft and sexy) eyeshadow palette use up In The Buff eyeshadow. (0 uses with a total of 34 uses)
Y: NYX eyeshadow pan (forgot to get a photo this update) goal is to use up. (16 uses for a total of 56 uses)
Z: BH Cosmetics Zodiac Palette-goal is to hit pan on the matte Virgo shade. (1 uses for a total of 17 uses)

While I fully expected to hit pan on both the tarte palette shades I was concentrating on, I did not at all expect to hit pan on two sultry palette shades. I am thrilled! I think I am getting close on steampunk as well. But, I am not going to commit to trying to get pan in that shade by next update. The other shades are quite underused so I think I’d rather concentrate on something else for a bit and see how I go. I think I might commit to trying to get the one pink matte “virgo” shade done in the zodiac palette, then I can put that entire palette away for a bit.

That’s all from here, I doubt I’ll be updating again in a month, I think this much progress in such a short time is not likely twice in a row. I’ll keep after it though, this has been a fun project to work on!

Everything but the Sink Project Pan

I have just invented this project pan right now. I decided to go through my skincare and bathroom storage. I gave two facemasks to my daughter. But then I realized that I was feeling overwhelmed by all the small items I had for travel, the samples, the items I hadn’t finished using yet because I moved on to something new, and the items I have gotten in subscription boxes that I haven’t even wanted to use.

So, I pulled a whole bunch of little items out of my collection, threw them all in a plastic bin, and decided to try to use them up.

Originally I thought I would take them all out and photograph and document them. But then I decided I couldn’t be bothered. So, instead, I am going to leave them in this box and pull from the box. Once they are done, we’ll have a traditional empties. I threw in there even things like travel size toothpaste and floss because the idea was to truly clean out my drawer and those were in my drawer. There’s a real mix of items. Makeup removing products I don’t use because I’d prefer to use a plain cleansing oil or balm, a couple hotel conditioners that I rather liked, some sheet masks, some actives and toners, just a total mix. All that being said, I don’t think it’ll take me all that long to complete this project, maybe 3 months? In the end, I just need to concentrate on these to get them used up.

A to Z project pan Update #3

I have determined that I don’t need to update this project pan monthly, and that’s certainly been the case. My last update was May 7 so it’s been a bit of time. However, during that time there was at least one vacation in which I did not wear makeup. Nevertheless, I was able to finish 2 products over the past month. I have also narrowed my photos down to just two instead of three, as there are now fewer products overall.

Recap:

With two more products finished, that leaves me 21 goals left to hit. It’s interesting because many of the items have around the same consistent usage per month within one or two uses. This time I can see I really concentrated on steampunk in the ABH palette. With 16 total uses I have to be getting close to hitting pan. The other one that I have used out of that palette is pearl though since I am using it as an inner corner highlight it’s less likely to hit pan despite its 47 uses now. I am pretty sure that my next goal met product will be the mario badescu facial spray. I am already quite a long way through it despite having also used the grace and stella spray. So, hopefully I can finish that one off by the next update. I am really hoping I’ll see pan in something as well! The jellypop primer is becoming frustrating. Despite 42 uses the line does not move. I still haven’t used enough of it to get it moving. On the other hand I really enjoy the primer and it is certainly a good bang for my buck.

Makeup depotting and repressing

While I am not sharing empties and purchases anymore, and I’ve got only one specific project pan running, I am still using up other makeup!

Last year I worked most of the year on a travel size of the Benefit Hoola bronzer. While I did not choose to keep using it for my A-Z project pan, I’ve been using it on the downlow and making good progress. Such good progress in fact that it was getting pretty hard to use.

The Hoola bronzer is on the left and since it’s a pretty small pan I just don’t have good product pick up on a brush anymore. I’d been meaning to repress it to the middle of the pan for awhile but hadn’t gotten around to it. But then I got to thinking about Benefit’s new release, Hoola Glow bronzer. I admit that while not a lot of new makeup releases sound particularly interesting to me at this point, that one did! Then I got to thinking about a pan of Pur bronzer I had depotted out of a palette ages ago. I used it a lot during the summer last year but it’s a bit dark, very glowy, and I can really only get away with it during the summer. I thought that maybe I could do a little experiment. The amount of bronzer I have left of the hoola is so small that if my experiment didn’t work, it really doesn’t matter. I figured I’d take my hoola matte and give it a bit of glow.

Originally I’d considered adding a highlighter to it but I think a glowy bronzer is better. So, I removed all the bronzer from the hoola travel size and put it in a small bowl. At that point I decided I didn’t need the packaging either, I really don’t have much product left, so I depotted the pan and recycled the plastic packaging. Then, I scraped some of the glowy pur bronzer into the bowl as well. I crushed both products and mixed them up really well then added a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the bowl. Once mixed in with the bronzer mixture, I pressed it into the hoola pan I had left.

On the left is my new hoola bronzer glowified, and on the right is the scraped pan of glowy pur bronzer.

I did have an opportunity to use my new to me hoola bronzer this morning and rather appreciated it, so the experiment was a success. I have new enthusiasm for a product that has taken me well over a year to finish and I’ve managed to remind myself that I don’t need a new glowy bronzer. If I could do it all over again, I would have left the pan in the packaging. After all, I quite liked how this turned out and could have made my own glowy bronzer using my full size Hoola bronzer and more of the glowy pur bronzer, nicely pressed into tidy packaging. But, I suspect I thought my experiment would fail so I didn’t have the foresight. In the end, I wouldn’t consider this a fail at all!

A to Z project pan update #2

Recap-

I’ve now finished 3 goals out of the original 26. I have not hit any pan on any of the many eyeshadows in the project. Then again, I didn’t really expect to. I’ve not been concentrating on any one thing in particular. Instead I’ve been mostly trying to divide my use between all of the shadows plus use items in the rest of my collection. I did increase the pan in the highlighter that I am looking to use up. By next update I expect to be done with the Grace and Stella facial spray and I think it’s likely I’ll also be done with the Urban Decay eye primer. Other than that, I am just plugging away at this project and really having a pretty nice go of it. It’s nice to have a focus on certain items in my collection while also giving myself the room to play with other items when I am feeling bored.

So that’s a wrap, 2 months in, 3 items finished, a few more getting close, and a lot of plugging away on the horizon.

A to Z Project Pan update 1

It’s been a month and a little over a week since I began this project pan, so I think it’s time for an update. I’ll do the letters and products in sections along with a photo from last month and this month’s photo under it. I’ll also list usage for this first month. Shall we get started?

A: Mario Badescu facial spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. The goal is to finish. (No usage in the first month)
B: ABH Sultry palette Bloom-goal is to hit pan. (2 uses)
C: ABH Sultry Palette Cinder-goal is to hit pan. (no usage)
D: ABH Sultry Palette Dystopian-goal is to hit pan. (3 uses)
E: ABH Sultry Palette Ember-goal is to hit pan. (1 use)
F: ABH Sultry Palette Fresh-goal is to hit pan. (4 uses)
G: Grace & Stella Spray all Day Rose Spray-goal is to finish. (24 uses)
H: Cover FX Palette Highlighter-goal is to hit pan on one of these. (I am making a change here as the highlighter is too dark, I am subbing in a pan highlighter from pur. I’ve already hit pan but my goal is to use it up. I used one or the other highlighter 14 times)
I: IT Cosmetics CC cream-Goal is to finish. (15 uses, I depotted this and put it in the little blue container for easy access.)
J: Elf Jellypop primer-goal is to finish. (16 uses, though it doesn’t look like any.)

Update 1

I’ve been trying to look at this project pan as a long term project and not get overly focused on it to the detriment of the remainder of my collection. And I think overall it’s been successful. There are items that I’ve got great progress on like the two foundations I concentrated on. I am hoping to have both of those finished off by next update. And I can see some good dips going on in some of the shadows. However, I’ve spread out my shadow usage between the 3 palettes and other palettes in my collection pretty well. I only finished one item over this month, but that’s all I expected to finish. I think I can finish 2 items for next update, possibly 3. The additional bonus on this project is that since I’ve got multiple eyeshadows from 2 palettes, the colors that aren’t technically in the project are also showing a nice amount of use. The mermaid palette in particular has expanded pan in two of the matte shades.

Again, I am not planning to roll in new products when I am done with goals on current products. This is just a project to complete, the products will dwindle as I complete them. Once finished, I’ll see then how I am feeling about another project. But, this has been an enjoyable lowkey project for me this season as I ease back into the office more fully post vaccination.

A to Z Project Pan

You may or may not have noticed but I completely abandoned my project pan and my beauty balance posts when I abandoned the blog temporarily. I am not upset about it. I had fun while it lasted, made use of my products, and got what I needed out of it. I am ready to move on.

Beauty Balance posts aren’t coming back. I just….don’t care. I’ve been throwing empty stuff away willy nilly and kind of loving it. And sometimes I buy stuff too, and that’s fine as long as it doesn’t get out of hand.

But, I still kind of want to do a little project pan. A little something to concentrate on specific products. So, I’ve put together an A to Z project. This will have maybe monthly updates. It will not be rolling. Once the items are gone, they are gone. Or rather, once a goal is hit, the items roll out. I anticipate this being a year long project but mostly I just want to see if I can hit goal on everything and then do something new.

I’ve chosen a wide variety, some items should be fairly easy to use, some will be longer term. Some I won’t even use until later in the year. This is also rather eyeshadow heavy, there are two palettes I really want to see a lot of use in this year. I am also not going to hold myself carefully to one month updates, I’ll just get to them when I get to them. And finally, I am also going to track progress. If I use the item on a particular day, it will get tracked. I do like that idea very much.

A to Z:

A: Mario Badescu facial spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. The goal is to finish.
B: ABH Sultry palette Bloom-goal is to hit pan.
C: ABH Sultry Palette Cinder-goal is to hit pan.
D: ABH Sultry Palette Dystopian-goal is to hit pan.
E: ABH Sultry Palette Ember-goal is to hit pan.
F: ABH Sultry Palette Fresh-goal is to hit pan.
G: Grace & Stella Spray all Day Rose Spray-goal is to finish.
H: Cover FX Palette Highlighter-goal is to hit pan on one of these.
I: IT Cosmetics CC cream-Goal is to finish.
J: Elf Jellypop primer-goal is to finish.

K: Kilian princess sample-goal is to finish.
L: Estee Lauder Doublewear-goal is to finish.
M:Tarte palette Mermosa-goal is to hit pan.
N: Tarte palette Nude Beach-goal is to hit pan.
O: C.Y.O Lifeproof foundation-goal is to finish.
P: ABH Sultry Palette Pearl-goal is to hit pan.
Q: Tarte blush color Quirky-goal is to hit pan.
R: Rom&nd bronzer: goal is to hit pan.
S: ABH Sultry Palette Steamunk-goal is to hit pan.
T: ABH Sultry Palette Twig-goal is to hit pan.

U: Urban Decay Eye Primer-goal is to finish.
V:Urban Decay eyeliner in Voodoo-goal is to use past the 24/7.
W: Lancome Teing Idole Ultra Wear foundation-goal is to finish.
X: Too Faced Boudoir Eyes (soft and sexy) eyeshadow palette use up In The Buff eyeshadow.
Y: NYX eyeshadow pan (at the bottom of the black eyeshadow palette) goal is to use up.
Z: BH Cosmetics Zodiac Palette-goal is to hit pan on the matte Virgo shade.

I really had to start getting creative there in the end, trying to make the makeup in my collection fit a letter. But I think I did it just fine! I’ve gone a little heavy on eyeshadows, but ABH palettes tend to be softly pressed, and I’ve used the tarte palette loads. The others are all more of a primer setting shadow, so I should be able to get those done as well. There’s a number of foundations but they are all sample sizes or heavily used already. I think the blush and bronzer will be the hardest to hit goal on, perhaps the highlighter as well. But, that cover FX palette is one I’d like to pan in the future so getting some good use on it will help get me closer to that goal. Since we are already mid-February, my plan is for the first update on this one to be the beginning of April. I am eager to get started!

Rolling Project Pan update #11

It’s time for a little project pan update, the only project I am still working on right now. This is the one where I use prompts to help me choose items to pan rolling style. I am going to keep after this, I’ll not end it this year, continuing into the new year. I’ll keep listing the prompts I have completed crossed off and adding in the next prompt as I get to it.

1.  A product with cute packaging
2.  An expensive product
3.  A product in loose form
4.  A drugstore product
5.  A product I bought because of youtube
6.  An old favorite
7.  A product you haven’t used in a while.
8. A product of your choosing
9. A product from a previous project.
10. A unique product
11. A product you don’t like
12. A product you bought online.
13. A product you received as a gift.
14. A product you’d recommend to anyone.
15. A product you haven’t used much.

And here’s last month’s photo:

And this month!:

4. A drugstore product is sill my nyx eyebrow pencil. I’ll be using this forever it seems. But I am making progress!

6. An old favorite is my hula bronzer, I used it all month but I am not entirely sure it shows.

12. a product I bought online is my UD eyeliner, the bronzy one. I have hardly used it this month but it did get sharpened once.

13. The product I received as a gift is my UD born to run eyeshadow palette and I have hit pan in the lower left hand corner shade. I am also pleased to have used this palette quite a bit overall. It looks used, while it did not before. But it gets rolled out now.

14. A product I’d recommend to anyone is my colourpop supershock shadow, and my goal was to hit pan, which I did. I am still using this but I can roll it out now.

15. A product I haven’t used much is my mac powder, and since it’s a baked item, it’s pretty hard to see any progress. I have been using it! But I really don’t need a lot at a time.

So, I need to roll in two new items.

16. a Product You Regret Buying-I’ve chosen my catrice foundation. Or rather, Miss Butterfly’s catrice foundation. The color is too light for me. She says it makes her face itchy. So that’s why it came to me. And that’s why I regret purchasing it. I’ve added a progress line, though much of it went into my other catrice foundation, my own color, which is slightly too dark on me. Now I want to see if I can use this one as a mixer for other foundations that are slightly too dark and use it up that way. This is a great time of the year to try that, as I am at my lightest.

17. A product out of your comfort zone-I’ve chosen a liquid eyeliner, eyeco brand, as this is best suited for a winged eyeliner, which I do not do. I am going to try to concentrate on it anyhow, but not with a wing. I’ve got a number of liquid liners and it would be good to go through a few in my collection.

With the items I have in the project this month I highly doubt I’ll be able to finish any and roll in anything new next month. All of these seem like longer term items to work on. I think I’ll do my best to concentrate on the copper eyeliner to see if that could be the one I get to roll out next month. The goal on that seems like it might be easiest to hit. We’ll see! Nevertheless, this is the project I am most enjoying out of all the projects I created for myself this year. Happy Panning!

Partners in Cream project pan finale

Since I am just not feeling this project pan right now, I am shutting it down. It would maybe be different if I didn’t have to wear a facemask all day. But I do, so cream projects just don’t work right now. Moving into the winter and with the whole of the US and our stat in particular doing terribly, basically unless I am home I am in a facemask. And that’s not great for cream products.

Here’s the photo of where I was at the beginning of last month:

I had finished the no poreblem primer and the small perfume. Everything else I was plugging away at.

This month’s photo:

I have cut into my sunscreen and I continue to use that regularly but there’s a lot in the base that I couldn’t get out while the tube was still whole. So, it has continued to take me a lot of time.

I made the normal amount of progress on my facial spray.

The Juice Beauty primer is balling up on my face quite a lot, it interferes with something. Perhaps the sunscreen. I hate using it. I will try it again with the next sunscreen to see if it improves at all, but I may end up decluttering it. I made progress though, I just couldn’t see the progress I made to mark it.

The foundation is way too dark for my skin as we move toward winter. I didn’t mark it but you can see that I did have a bit more use. Now it’ll be put back on a shelf waiting until spring/summer next year.

My sleek cream contour palette did see a bit of use, I did actually use it. But not enough to really make a difference in the pan. I only used that darkest shade.

The only things I’ll continue to use are the sunscreen and the facial spray. Then the primer once the sunscreen is gone. But in the end, I am ready to put this project to bed.

Eyeshadow Roulette project update

This, too, like my project pan is rather a late post. But not as late. This is my project where I work through eyeshadows in my collection using them 30 times or until I hit pan, whichever comes first.

I changed up the rules a bit in the past few months as I wanted to concentrate on my Urban Decay Born to Run palette until I hit pan in it. This should give it a good used feel to it once that happens. So I’ve been making decisions about what colors I draw in a semi-random way. I use my random roulette app to choose a shadow. If the shadow is part of the Born to Run palette, that’s the one I get. If it is part of a different palette, I randomize the colors in the Born to Run palette and choose one that way. And, if I use the roulette app, and it draws me a single shadow, I use that single shadow.

Here’s my photo for this month:

The ones circled in red are the two shadows I hit pan on. I used the mint color a total of 24 times in order to hit pan. It’s a VERY small pan, but it’s there, I promise! And, with the pink single shadow from NYX, I used it a total of 29 times.

Right above the pink single shadow is Sherbet, that was also in the project, and I used it 30 times. No pan achieved.

The colors circled in yellow are all my current colors I am working on. Here’s how that breaks down:

-Hell Ride, the pink in the UD palette, I’ve been concentrating on it. Substantial dip going on but no pan. I’ve used this now a total of 22 times.

-Baja is the orange right under it, I haven’t used it much yet, only a total of 5 times.

-Next to Baja is Punk, I have not yet used it but it’s in the project.

-Below Punk is Double Life, it’s been in the project a fairly long time now, and I’ve used it a total of 12 times.

-Also chosen is Ignite, it was rolled in but hasn’t seen any use.

-And, serendipitously, the single shadow I rolled in is Urban Decay as well, it’s a moondust single in starlight.

The specific eyeshadow colors I am working with.

Since the vast majority of these colors are warm toned, I am going to keep concentrating on the berry color Hellride I may try to incorporate the cooler toned brown called Punk into my berry toned looks, but I only have 8 more uses on Hellride so I am ready to finish that one up. Previously I had been rolling in a new shade just as soon as I roll out an old one, but I have so many unused or barely used colors this time that I think it’s better to wait until next month.

All in all, as I put the Nyx single back in the magnetic palette it came from, where another single from the project resides, I felt rather proud to have that little quad I made myself looking quite used and abused! This project has been really effective, and I may handle the project similarly in the future. I’ll choose one palette to concentrate on and make look used until I hit pan on a shade and then roll it back out and pick a new palette to concentrate on.

Rolling Project Pan update #10

It’s been busy around here, so my update is late! Our latest foster dog is a sweet, cute little love but also the most challenging foster dog we’ve had yet. Our neighbor’s old dog is ailing and we’ve been over assisting her withher dog regularly as well. Work is busy, blah blah, and then of course the week was stressful just in the not knowing sense of what was going on here in the states. And our state’s virus numbers are rising in an alarming manner.

All this is to say, my update is 8 or 9 days late because I couldn’t get it together.

Let’s review:

1.  A product with cute packaging
2.  An expensive product
3.  A product in loose form
4.  A drugstore product
5.  A product I bought because of youtube
6.  An old favorite
7.  A product you haven’t used in a while.
8. A product of your choosing
9. A product from a previous project.
10. A unique product
11. A product you don’t like
12. A product you bought online.
13. A product you received as a gift.
14. A product you’d recommend to anyone.

Last month’s photo:

And this month:

4. A Drugstore Product is still my NYX eyebrow pencil. Progress has been made, it’s slow going.

6. An old favorite is my Hula bronzer. I’ve expanded the pan and I did finally hit side pan on the thinnest side.

8. A product of my choosing is my IT cosmetics cc cream which I finished up this month!

12. A product I bought online is my Urban Decay eyeliner, I wanted to use it through the 24 of 24/7. It did get sharpened this month but I didn’t actually use it often.

13. A product I received as a gift is my Urban Decay Born to Run eyeshadow palette. My goal is to hit pan on one shade. It’s in my eyeshadow roulette until I do. I’ve got a good dip going in a couple colors but no pan yet.

14. A product I’d recommend to anyone is my colourpop supershock shadow in color frog. I had hit pan before putting it in this project, but I rearranged and squished all the product back into an even layer and am looking to hit pan again.

Now for item15. The prompt is “A product you haven’t used much” and I chose my mac mineralized skin finish. It’s a light glowy finishing powder. I figured this would be a good item to use through the fall, winter, and early spring. I hadn’t touched it at all before putting it in this project so I am eager to get use out of it.

Not a bad month, though I did wear less makeup overall. I am working from home again for a few days each week and though when I was working from home in the spring, I did my makeup almost daily, that has changed in the fall. I just can’t be bothered. Finishing a product was great. There’s only one product, the eyeliner, that didn’t get a ton of use. The goal is to use product I own, so in that respect, I am doing fine!

October Beauty Balance Part Empties

So, in my previous October beauty balance post I had 41 items leaving my collection over what entered it. And it was my hope to make that up in my empties. Which I did!

This was actually a very serious empties month. I worked through a lot of items. In fact, my total is 14. So, I ended up with 55 items out of my collection over what entered this year.

Let’s go through the empties real quick.

Rusk hair mousse, I didn’t like this that much nor will I repurchase. But it had a nice scent unlike the mousse I am working on now.

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension, I’ve gone through a few of these, but have decided to try something new, so I won’t repurchase at this time.

Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream-I really enjoy this and will absolutely repurchase, though I do not need to at this time.

L’Oreal Double Extend tubing mascara. I used this up really, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I do want another tubing mascara in my life.

Too Faced mascara-this sample size came to me a bit dry and I’ve decided to declutter it. I gave it to Miss Butterfly to see what she can do with it.

Kate Somerville Exfolicate cleanser-I liked this quite a bit, it has a great scent and does work nicely. But, I won’t repurchase, I don’t feel like cleansers are a good place to get the exfoliating step done. I’ll stick with less expensive cleansers.

Becca undereye color corrector-I will likely repurchase this at some point. I just haven’t done so yet. But I do really like the product.

Bite Beauty agave lip mask-sadly they’ve reformulated these. I haven’t tried the new formulation. I like the lanolin so I’ve switched to Lanolips for now.

I finished an eyebrow pencil that was pretty terrible in both color and formulation. Would not repurchase and can’t even be bothered to remember the brand name. It came in a subscription box.

Dermalogica sunscreen-this was just a small sample that I liked well enough. It had kind of a powder smell to it. It worked well under makeup. But, I wouldn’t purchase, I am kind of fond of some K and J beauty sunscreens and I’ll keep up with those instead.

Tocca Maya rollerball perfume, used up in 2 months. I didn’t love the scent, and the scent didn’t stick around. So, I wouldn’t purchase.

One tiny pan of frankenhighlighter that I created myself, now all my frankenhighlighters are gone and I couldn’t be more happy about that.

I’ve also got a couple samples of Purito Deep Sea Pure water cream that I really enjoyed. In fact, Purito is a brand I will be exploring more for skincare in the future as I have truly enjoyed their products.

I’ve got a haircare order coming in soon, but I also have 5 or 6 products I know will be empty by next month. So, I am hoping to keep up with my more out over what comes in goals through the end of the year. It will be interesting to see what my final yearly total is this year (especially since I have a particular penchant for advent calendars) and then to see if I can do better in the next year.

Partners in Cream Project Pan update 9

Last month I was unable to finish any items in my partners in cream project. This month I finished two items! Here’s where I was last month:

And let’s discuss this month’s progress:

From the top, left to right. I have my Clarins sunscreen I’ve been working on for a few months now. I keep saying it stings my eyes, and I keep using it on my face anyhow. I ran into a situation at the dog park the other day where I couldn’t even see anymore it stung so bad. So, I am back to trying to use this more as a body sunscreen. I did not mark a new mark on this item since I am kind of at that point where I have to fold it in half to get product out of it.

Next up is my No Poreblem primer. It’s done! I’ve scraped it out with a spatula. This was a good primer and it grew on me over time. I do not regret using it.

I also have my rollerball sample size of Tocca Maya perfume. It was fine, not something I would purchase, and I finished it.

My born this way foundation had a lot of progress this month and I am really hoping to finish next month. I think I am getting close, as the product doesn’t actually come out of the pump too well anymore. I really do like this foundation and if I didn’t have loads of other foundations, I’d probably repurchase it in a shade more appropriate for me on the regular.

I also have made continued steady progress on my facial spray.

Now that the weather is cooling (sort of!) it’s time to start rolling in more cream makeup, so I am adding back in my sleek palette of cream contour. I’ll be concentrating on the darkest shade. I might use the bronzer from time to time as well, but once that darker contour is gone I am probably going to call it quits on this palette.

And finally I’ve decided to add in another primer since I finished the no poreblem primer. I want to keep working through my primers quite consistently. So, I have added this juice beauty primer to this project.

Goals for next update-definitely hoping to finish the foundation and a stretch goal will be the sunscreen. This should leave room for other cream makeup products I’d like to be concentrating on during the cooler months.

Eyeshadow Roulette Project update

It’s time for another roulette project update. a recap of the rules thus far, I randomly choose eyeshadow colors to focus on throughout each month. I use them for 30 uses or until I hit pan, whichever comes first.

Current rule-when I roll out a color, I am rolling in either a single or something from my Urban Decay Born To Run palette. I will be doing so until I hit pan on one of my BTR palette colors.

Here’s the color swatches I was using last month:

And a photo of the eyeshadows as they are currently:

I circled in blue the two colors which rolled out. The first is at the top in my NYX Happy Birthday Palette. I hit pan on it so I can roll it out. It took me a total of 18 uses on this to hit pan. It did have a nice dip in it when I rolled it in. That’s now 3 pans showing in this palette, rendering it officially well used!

Then there’s a NYX single from the 2018 advent calendar. I hit my 30 uses on this one, and that left it with a nice significant dip. Pan wouldn’t have been far behind but for now this rolls out.

I then ended up rolling in two BTR palette colors, my new swatches look like this:

So, at the very top I’ve got my NYX advent calendar pink shimmer-I used it only twice this month giving me a total of 16 uses since rolling it in.

Next is Violet Voss Sugar Crystals color Mint Choco. I have changed how I am using this a bit and as such, got 8 uses from it this month giving me a total of 10 uses in this project. I am now actually packing this on my waterline when wearing a neutral look to add a pop of color and I really like the effect.

Third down is Violet Voss Sugar Crystals palette color Sherbet. I used this 8 times this month, giving me a total use tally of 10 in this project.

The next three are all from my Born To Run palette, the first is Hell Ride. This is, quite frankly, a “miss” color in this palette. It blends away to nothing or to an ugly not quite brown shade. I have decided that the best way to make this work is packed all over the lid with a topper shade over it. I have used it 3 times.

Then we’ve got Baja which is a definite hit color in this palette, a nice matte orange it pairs beautifully with much of the palette colors. I have used it 4 times.

Finally, Double Life is a coppery shade over a blackened base. Strangely, while it goes on the lid that way, at the end of the day I am left with just the coppery part and the blackened part disappears. I used this 7 times this month for a total of 10 uses in this project.

In the BTR palette I’ve been regularly using a few other colors as well, Blaze, Weekender, Riff, Ignite, and Still Shot are all featuring in my looks quite regularly.

For goals, since the only color that is anywhere near being rolled out and still it’s a stretch, I am going to concentrate on the pink shimmery NYX single. At only 16 uses I’ve got a heck of a way to go on it and I do not think I’ll be able to hit pan on it as it’s harder pressed than the other NYX shimmer single which I did use 30 times. I think I’ll try to pair it will hell ride and mint choco in hopes to get uses out of those two colors as well. Meanwhile, I’ll concentrate on using Sherbet as an inner corner highlight, as it’s so light it’s not really useful otherwise.

I admit that I am starting to feel slightly burned out on this project after a number of months with it and these days I am pulling out other palettes from time to time to have a play with them. So, if progress here slows down, that’s likely why! And in the end, it’s already been successful as the point is use what I have and don’t purchase more. It’s now been 5 months without new eyeshadow and that still seems JUST FINE with me!

Rolling Project Pan Update #9

I wasn’t absolutely positive I’d get to roll in a new prompt and product this month, but the spoiler is, I did finish one thing! Here’s my list as it stood last month:

1.  A product with cute packaging
2.  An expensive product
3.  A product in loose form
4.  A drugstore product
5.  A product I bought because of youtube
6.  An old favorite
7.  A product you haven’t used in a while.
8. A product of your choosing
9. A product from a previous project.
10. A unique product
11. A product you don’t like
12. A product you bought online.
13. A product you received as a gift.

And the photo from last month where I’d rolled in a new eyeliner and my urban decay born to run palette.

Here’s my progress this month:

4. A drugstore product is my nyx eyebrow pencil, and to be honest, I didn’t use it much this past month. I’ve got one I don’t like as much and it’s darker and close to being finished, so I’ve sort of concentrated on that instead. It did get sharpened at least once though.

6. An Old Favorite is my hula bronzer, travel size. Last month I had concentrated on the other side of the bronzer, not increasing the pan. This month I actually chose to work my way toward side pan and the pan has increased quite a bit. I do hope to fully hit side pan in the upcoming month as well as continuing to increase the pan on this product.

8. A product of my choosing is my it cosmetics cc cream which I will really be concentrating on using up this month. I want this officially out of my collection at the end of this month. It’s close now!

10. A Unique product was my last pan of frankenhighlighter I made a few years ago. I finished it up this month so I can roll something new in.

12. A product I bought online was my UD liner, my goal is to use it until I hit the “24” which looks like it’ll take about another month. It’s an extremely creamy eyeliner so it disappears quite quickly when I am using it regularly. On the other hand, I haven’t been using it all that regularly despite using color tones of shadows that really work with it.

13. A product I received as a gift is my UD Born to Run palette, it’s probably the only makeup gift I own. My goal with this is to hit pan in one of the shadows. At the moment, Big Sky is the closest to pan since it was the first one to show up in my eyeshadow roulette project. If I were to guess, it’ll either be that color or a setting shade that gets pan first.

Now I get to choose my new product which is:

14. A product I’d recommend to anyone. This is a colourpop supershock shadow. They are so easy to use and impactful. No real skill is needed with these and that’s part of why they are so fantastic. I chose the color in the photo above because it makes a good topper. I pulled it out when deciding on a product figuring I’d use it until I hit pan. I decided to put it on my eyes to remind myself what it looked like. And I immediately hit pan. Hah. So, I smooshed it all back evenly in the pan and my goal again will be to hit pan.

I am really enjoying this rolling project, I like rolling in some items that are a little easier to hit a goal on while keeping a few longer term items going as well. I love the prompts! I love looking around my collection for something that matches the next prompt. I like thinking about upcoming prompts and what I might choose. This is absolutely a fun time for me in my makeup world!

Protect Your Meatsuit Project Pan Finale

I warned last month that I was probably going to wrap this project up this month. Mostly because I feel like it has served it’s purpose, both in keeping me using products I hadn’t previously used and kept me from purchasing new products of a similar nature.

Here’s my photo from last month:

I really had thought I’d be done with 3 items out of the 4 left. That didn’t quite happen. But, it’s too close to spend an entire month on and I just don’t feel like coming back and showing you a bunch of empty products 3 weeks after I finished them next month.

As a reminder, I rolled out the hair styling cream last month and gave it to Miss Butterfly.

I finished the Kate Somerville cleanser, bthat was an easy finish.

The Elemis face mask I had hoped to finish due to having more remote work days, but in the end, work was too busy and we had some unexpected stuff come up there that kept me from my remote work. In the end, I have been using it still on the weekends. BUT, I really am ridiculously close to finishing.

The shower gel is still holding on, I’ve now had a solid 9 months of use and am working on my 10th month. I think it’ll be gone quite soon now, but I am happy to keep using it until it’s completely finished.

I did make some actual progress on my toner this time, but since the hotter weather is mostly over, I won’t see too much progress on this again until next spring/summer.

And that’s a wrap! I didn’t actually finish a ton of things in this project, almost everything I chose was a longer term item. But, it did keep me concentrating on things and not making additional purchase, and that’s exactly what I am looking for.

Partners in Cream Project Pan Update #8

I am so pleased with how far I’ve gotten with my partners in cream project pan this month! While I did not finish any items, I’ve made good progress on each one. It’s felt very steady over this past month. Here’s last month’s photo:

I had intended to cut open the cc cream and finish it off in the first week, which I did. Since I knew it would be done shortly, I preemptively added the little perfume rollerball which was completely full.

Here’s my progress this month:

The product I am most proud of is the born this way foundation. The color only suits me when I am at my most tanned. I’d been using it as a mixer for this summer but I am now at a point where I can just use it alone. No mixing. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to hold out on that, it completely depends on how warm it stays and for how long and also how much opportunity I have to stay outside. But, this is the most progress I’ve had in a year so I am thrilled with it and eager to get as much use as possible in the upcoming month. Once I can no longer wear it alone, I’ll use it as a mixer as I lighten back up for the winter. I would genuinely LOVE to finish it up this year but I suspect that won’t be possible.

The next best progress is the No Poreblem primer. I made more progress on this than in past months. The line is a bit deceiving as I no longer can use the pump. I have to scrape it out bit by bit.

Steady progress only on the setting spray.

The clarins sunscreen has seen great progress as well. I’ve stopped using it only for my face as my skin does not react well to it. I use it for my face sometimes but also regularly use it for my tattoo. I do believe I’ll finish up this product this year even if it isn’t quick.

And finally the Tocca Maya perfume rollerball-I made steady progress and I’ve used it exclusively. If I do so again for another month I should be done and I can choose something else to roll in.

So, next month I think I’ll be able to roll in another product or two. Depending on the weather, I may be back to using cream makeup products again, which I think would be fun! Next post should be a beauty balance post, and since I did finish quite a few items, I am rather excited to post and get them into the recycle bin.

Eyeshadow Roulette Project Update

Time to update my eyeshadow roulette project, and I am going to tell you right away that I am still just loving this challenge. Here’s the swatch photo from last month:

My goal is to hit pan on these or to use each 30 times before rolling the color out and randomly choosing another. Let’s discuss the colors:

At the top is Urban Decay Big Sky from the born to run palette. I finished my 30 uses and got a rather significant dip in the shadow.

Below that is a christmas palette from Too Faced, and I was also able to finish my 30 uses of that color.

Then there’s a lovely copper shimmer color from Nyx, it’s a single. As of today, I’ve used it 19 times.

Below that is another Nyx single, the pink shimmer color. I’ve used that 14 times.

And then from the nyx happy birthday palette, another copper shimmer, this one I’ve used 11 times so far.

I rolled in Violet Voss Sugar Crystals palette, color Mint Choco. Used only 4 times so far, which is no surprise, it’s a rather bold color to try to incorporate with so many neutrals.

I then needed to roll in two new colors since I had 2 completed goals. Here’s the swatch now:

The two new colors are at the bottom. The first is Violet Voss Sugar Crystals Sherbet. It’s supposed to be an orangy light shimmer but it kind of just comes across as light. I have used this 2 times in the past month.

And, finally, Urban Decay Born To Run Palette makes another appearance, the color is Double Life. It’s a darker coppery shimmer than all the other coppery shimmers currently in this project, and it seems like it may be a duochrome. It’s a copper shimmer on a blackened base. The thing is, while it applies quite dark to the eyelid, it doesn’t stay dark, it seems to lighten up throughout the day, making it quite wearable. I like the color and it performs a lot better than the Big Sky color previously in the project which is only technically suitable as a liner shade.

Changes to “rules” this time is that I am officially going to only roll in Born to Run palette colors in a random fashion until I hit pan on one of the born to run shadows. Then I’ll roll it back out and concentrate on something else.

And here’s a shot of the pans of the shadows I am using. First of all, I circled in blue the one rolling out so that you can see the nice dip I have going in there. To be honest, If I really want to hit pan on this palette, continuing to concentrate on that color would probably do the trick. But at the same time, I rather want to actually use this palette for a bit. In December I’ll have had it for 2 years and really not used it often at all!

You can see that the two singles sitting on the colorful palette have nice dips in them already. These are the two nyx singles. I also have a rather solid dip in the color in the nyx palette. I’ve been concentrating on expanding my bonus pan in that palette as well as using the mattes in that palette and I am rather hopeful I’ll hit pan prior to 30 uses. We’ll see!

I’ll be predominately concentrating on the nyx shadows this month to see if I can get them rolled out and more of the born to run colors rolled in. I’ll try to use the super bright Violet Voss colors 4 more times this month if possible. I guess if I were to use Sherbet as an inner corner highlight I could get more than 4 uses, but I’ve got another color I am trying to pan that works best as an inner corner highlight as well.

In any case, I’ve again enjoyed this project for another month and am eager to continue. While there’s part of me that feels many of my palettes are neglected in my collection, that same part of me realizes that’s exactly why I shouldn’t purchase more eyeshadow palettes, and that’s exactly what I hoped for. So, I am continuing on this fun little journey of eyeshadow roulette and looking forward to the upcoming month, rolling out shadows, and concentrating on my born to run palette.

Protect Your Meatsuit project pan update 8

Before I get too far into this, I’ll tell you right off the bat, this particular project is drawing to a close. A few more months and I’ll likely just be done with it. I am not going to keep rolling items in. I just don’t feel like I have enough backups in my life to need to keep rolling items in. And that’s really the goal in the first place!

Here’s the photo from last month:

I had finished two items and rolled two more in. Now here’s where I am this month:

The shower gel is really getting close to being finished. I feel positive it will be gone by next month’s update. I have to turn it upside down to get the product out of the container now. I have very much enjoyed using this for the past 8 months and am glad i had the opportunity to try it.

The elemis face mask I did not mark a new line on because I might have used this once in the past month. I think since my return to full time on campus work I have just not given myself the time to do face masks. Quite frankly, our state and our surrounding states aren’t doing all that well and I have a suspicion we may return to some form of partly remote work again, so I may do a little better with this in the upcoming month. I really would like to finish this one up!

The cleanser made steady progress, I may finish this month, and if not this month, I’ll finish next month.

While I’ve been using the toner every morning, I did not see enough use to mark it on the container, so I did not do so. Maybe next month!

And finally, the hair product. I used 9 grams of it, and that’s maybe only 2 uses. I have decided to declutter this item and give it to my daughter.

And with that, I am telling you that I am not rolling anything new in to replace the declutter. If I happen to find something to roll in between now and next month’s update, I will add it. Otherwise, I plan to let this particular project expire. I’ll keep working on it until I’ve only got an item or two, and then I’ll call it quits. But I don’t see a big point in continuing it now, I just don’t have a lot of extra body care and hair care items laying around that need to be used up! And that’s a very good thing.

Rolling Project Pan Update 8

While I am a bit late in posting my update this month, I am still on a roll with my projects. As a reminder, this is one where I am using prompts to choose products. And I am trying to keep this one primarily makeup related. As I am working through the prompts, I am listing them and then crossing off the ones I have completed or made a goal on.

1.  A product with cute packaging
2.  An expensive product
3.  A product in loose form
4.  A drugstore product
5.  A product I bought because of youtube
6.  An old favorite
7.  A product you haven’t used in a while.
8. A product of your choosing
9. A product from a previous project.
10. A unique product
11. A product you don’t like

And here’s the photo from last month:

I rolled out the hourglass powder and rolled in the white eyeliner from colourpop.

Here’s where I am now:

A product I haven’t used in a while was my blue silkissimee L’Oreal liner, and I had the goal to use it past the L’Oreal brand name. I knew I’d have it done this month as I was so close last month. Indeed, I was technically finished a week later though I continued to use it all month.

A product I didn’t like was the white colourpop eyeliner. I never thought it worked well, and despite it being quite new to my collection, it dried out, cracked, and bits of it kept breaking off and falling on my floor, or one time in my coffee, which I only found after I finished drinking my coffee. This is finished because probably after 3 uses the last bit broke off and fell on the floor. The three uses I had done had frustrated me completely anyhow. So I was not sorry that happened.

A drugstore product is my nyx eyebrow pencil which I am still using almost daily and working my way through. I have little to say about this other than I bet I’ll still be working on this well into the new year.

A product of my choosing was my it cosmetics cc cream. Despite having worked on finishing my matte cc cream at the beginning of the month, I did manage to get a good amount of this used. I am hoping that this month will be the final push on this one and I’ll finish it up so I can roll in something new next month.

An old favorite is the sample of benefit hula bronzer. While I realize that it doesn’t look like I really made any sort of dent in this, I have been using it consistently. I just decided to concentrate my brush on areas that did not have pan already.

My unique product is my little pan of frankenhighlight I created myself. It’s crumbly now, and I wasn’t able to finish because using this as a face highlight is too light for my skin in deep summer. I’ve been using it as an inner corner highlight but that’s slow going!

And with that, I get to roll in two new items.

12. A product you bought online.

The question is, what product didn’t I buy online? The vast majority of my makeup collecting has been online purchases. So, this prompt left me a ton of freedom. So I chose an Urban Decay eyeliner color starfire. It’s a travel size liner and I chose it because my eyeshadow project currently has a ton of coppery shimmers in it. This is a nice subtle way to tie in all those coppery colors. My goal is to work down to the 24 on the label.

13. A product you received as a gift.

I am fairly certain that there’s only one product I’ve ever received as a gift and that’s my Urban Decay Born to Run palette. So I’ve rolled it in. It’s been a goal this year to use this palette more, so I am not at all sad about this. My goal here is to hit pan on something in this palette. In reality, the closest I am to that in ANY shade is Big Sky, the blue that was in my eyeshadow project. While some colors in this palette are misses, by and large, I really like this palette. I plan to concentrate my usage for my eyeshadow roulette challenge on this palette as well. 30 uses of a few colors should help me hit pan, ideally before the end of the year.

So, that’s a wrap for another month. It’s nice that the two items I rolled out were balanced, one a longer term goal and the other short term. I am still enjoying this limited makeup project pan. I like that I can explore various items within my collection while also concentrating on a few select items to make use of them or use them up. It’s a nice balance I am enjoying very much!

Eyeshadow Roulette Project Update

Generally I attempt to get my eyeshadow roulette project post up on the 5th of the month. I did not do so this month, but I did take a snapshot of my notebook where I record usage to make sure at least that was accurate.

Here’s the color scheme I began with last month.

I’d had high hopes for this color palette, the blue in particular. Sadly, it did not perform well at all on my eyelids. When used as a shimmer all over the lid, it creased terribly and wore off. Also, the top matte shade developed pan about two days after this photo was taken, so I didn’t keep using it much after. Here’s the photo of the pans of each of these colors:

Urban Decay Big Sky (the blue) has a nice dip in it despite the fact that it won’t be used as a lid color. I am using it as an eyeliner when I can, and I now have 22 uses.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Georgia has a bit of a dip in it, and I was able to do a full 30 uses and rotate it out.

Revlon Maverick palette I hit pan 2 days after posting, so that got rotated out.

Colourpop Bye Bye Birdie palette I had both Heron Chic and Nevermore to work on. I managed to get my 30 uses on both and that palette is rotated out.

My Too Faced christmas palette color Make a Wish is starting to see a dip. I currently have 25 uses on this one so I will be able to finish in the upcoming month.

I did not achieve any “bonus” pans either this month, which is fine!

So, I pulled in new colors to keep with my 6 colors. And in the end, I pulled 3 nyx colors. One of which is in a palette I already had in this challenge. It’s the NYX happy birthday palette and I’d achieved 2 bonus pans during the time it was in the challenge previously. I love that I’ll keep working on the palette and get more use out of it.

Here’s the swatch photo:

The only matte here is the green at the bottom. That’s Violet Voss Sugar Crystals Palette (another I’ve already explored in this challenge!) color Mint Choco.

In any case, let’s ATTEMPT to be more organized. From top to bottom, the first two are the two still in from last month. Urban Decay Born To Run palette color Big Sky and the Too Faced christmas palette color Make a Wish.

Below those two is a Nyx copper shimmer color from an advent calendar. It’s a single. And then a nyx shimmer that is pink, it’s from the same advent calendar and is also a single.

And below that is another coppery nyx color from the happy birthday palette.

Ultimately while I’ll need to draw in mattes from elsewhere, this looks like a fairly cohesive color story and I will not have too much trouble working on it this month. I worry about the mint green but I’ll experiment with an “ice cream eye” look using the nyx singles as well.

Here’s what the pans are looking like:

These are just the rolled in colors as I took photos above of the other two palettes.

In the past I’d gone from trying to create pan in each color to just trying to get 30 uses or pan, whichever came first. Depending on where I am next month, I may try to give myself a new rule or two. The first may be that if I roll in a new palette, the next color I choose is also from that palette. Trying to juggle multiple palettes in the morning can be a bit daunting. Since I chose two singles this month I didn’t implement this rule yet. I may also keep rolling until I get a palette I haven’t used yet, as my usage on just two palettes is pretty heavy now, with little use on the other items in my collection. But at the moment, these are just ideas I am throwing around in my head, I am not implementing them yet!
